"Though eggs do seem to raise cholesterol in the body somewhat, the newest research indicates that the way in which eggs raise cholesterol may be less of a concern than with some other foods.
In a study of middle-aged and elderly people presented by the University of Connecticut in 2006, researchers found that eating three large eggs per day did tend to elevate levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol. But it also raised levels of "good" HDL cholesterol, to the point where the effect was essentially neutral.
In addition, as our understanding of cholesterol is becoming more sophisticated, so is our understanding of eggs. Cholesterol isn't just LDL and HDL: There are lipoproteins in both categories that come in varying sizes. In both LDL and HDL, the larger particles are better. Larger low-density lipoprotein are less likely to embed themselves in the arterial walls and lead to atherosclerosis. And larger high-density lipoproteins are more likely to grab other lipoproteins and other heart-hurting particles and shuttle them out of the body.
Keeping this in mind, the researchers at the University of Connecticut found that the cholesterol from eggs almost always manifests itself in the body as LARGER (emphasis mine) particles. That means the LDL produced from eggs is less likely to cause heart disease."
